The fuel is distributed from the tank to the engine through a large number of lines.  In order to resist an operating pressure of up to 7 bar, the fuel lines have to meet high  requirements on this way. 

They can become porous and cracked over time due to the constant stress and/or the material;  but environmental influences or marten bites can also lead to a leaking fuel line.
Leaking fuel lines represent a risk in road traffic.
